Change Ring Tone on GRP26xx Models #
Learn how to change the incoming call ring tone on your Grandstream GRP26xx IP phones (GRP2612, GRP2613, GRP2614, GRP2615, GRP2616 and similar).
By default, your GRP26xx phones use a standard ring tone for all accounts. You can change the ring tone from the phone’s screen or—from some deployments—through the web interface. Use the steps below to set a ring tone that matches your preference or site standard.
What You Need #
- A Grandstream GRP26xx desk phone registered to your PeerOne system.
- Access to the phone’s screen and keypad.
- (Optional) Access to the phone’s web interface if you prefer to configure it from a browser.
Step 1 – Change Ring Tone from the Phone #
Use these steps on the phone’s LCD screen:
- Press the Menu key on the phone.
- Use the navigation keys to go to Settings and press OK.
- Select Preferences → Ring Tones.
- Choose the desired account (for example, Account 1) if prompted, or select the global ring tone list.
- Scroll through the available ring tones (Ring1, Ring2, Ring3, …) and press Play to preview the sound.
- Highlight the ring tone you want and press Save or OK.
Step 2 – Set a Ring Tone per Account (Multi-Line Phones) #
Many GRP26xx models support different ring tones per line key. This can help you identify which extension or queue is ringing.
- Go back to Menu → Settings → Preferences → Ring Tones.
- Select Per Account (if available) or the specific account name.
- Assign a ring tone (for example, Ring1 for Account 1 and Ring2 for Account 2).
- Press Save to apply the changes.
Step 3 – Change Ring Tone from the Web Interface (Optional) #
If you have access to the phone’s web GUI, you can also set ring tones from a browser. This can be quicker when managing multiple phones.
- On the phone, press Menu → Status → Network Status to find the phone’s IP address.
- Open a browser on your PC and go to http://<phone-IP>.
- Log in with the username and password provided by PeerOne or your administrator.
- Go to Accounts → Account 1 → Basic Settings (or the relevant account).
- Find the field Account Ring Tone or Ring Tone and choose the desired value (for example, System Ring1, System Ring2, etc.).
- Click Save and Apply. The phone will briefly update its configuration.
| Ring Tone | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| Ring1 / System Ring1 | Default site-wide ring tone for most extensions. |
| Ring2 / System Ring2 | Alternate ring tone, often used for queues or secondary lines. |
| Ring3+ / Custom | Additional tones you can use to differentiate departments or special lines. |
Troubleshooting #
- Phone still uses the old ring tone: Make sure you pressed Save on the phone or clicked Save and Apply in the web interface.
- Ring tone option is greyed out: The phone might be provisioned by PeerOne. Contact PeerOne Support if you need a specific ring tone enforced for your site.
- Different phones ring differently: Repeat the steps on each GRP26xx phone or request a template change if you want a standardized ring tone across all devices.
Best Practices #
- Use distinct ring tones for important queues (e.g., support vs. sales) to avoid confusion.
- Document which ring tone is used for each department or line for future reference.
- After making changes, place a test call to confirm the new tone is active.
